Nothing Opens Flagship Store in India, Its Largest Market
Nothing, the tech hardware company known for its distinctive design aesthetic and backed by significant investment, has officially opened its very first retail store in India. This strategic move marks a significant expansion for the company, targeting its most crucial market. The inaugural store is situated in Bengaluru, a city that represents a substantial concentration of Nothing's user base within India, according to company statements.
An Immersive Brand Experience
The new, two-story retail space is designed to be more than just a point of sale; it serves as an immersive showcase for Nothing's innovative products and ongoing projects. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the full range of Nothing's hardware, alongside exclusive merchandise. A unique feature of the store is the option for customers to personalize select items, adding a bespoke touch to their purchases.
Carl Pei, co-founder and CEO of Nothing, expressed his vision for the store: "We wanted to create a fun space. It is kind of inspired by all the parts that are related to the brand. For instance, the factory: if you buy a product, there's like a production line where the product comes out. We also show machines where phones go through testing, like USB port testing or water resistance testing. So we just wanted to bring that world together."
Showcasing Both Nothing and CMF Brands
The store will feature products from both the premium Nothing brand and its more accessible counterpart, CMF. CMF, which was spun off last year, is specifically headquartered in India and operates through a joint venture with local Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), Optiemus. This localization underscores Nothing's commitment to the Indian market.
Pei elaborated on the distinct positioning of the two brands. He explained that Nothing caters to a more niche audience with higher-priced products, while CMF targets the mass market. "CMF is more targeted towards mass. You know it's mass, but it's not like just off-the-shelf rebrand products that usually what occurs in this price point. They are also products that we put a lot of care into," he stated, highlighting that CMF products, despite their accessible pricing, are developed with significant attention to detail.
India's Growing Significance for Nothing
India has consistently proven to be Nothing's strongest market. Data from analyst firm IDC indicated that Nothing held over 2% market share in the smartphone segment in India. Furthermore, the company was recognized as the fastest-growing brand in the country during Q2 2025, experiencing an impressive 85% year-over-year growth in shipments.
This retail expansion mirrors a broader trend among hardware manufacturers establishing aspirational retail presences in India. For example, Apple is preparing to open its sixth store in the country, located in Borivali, Mumbai.
Future Global Expansion Plans
The Bengaluru store marks the first Nothing retail outlet outside of its London headquarters. While specific timelines have not been released, the company has indicated plans to open additional stores in Tokyo and New York, signaling its ambition for global retail growth.
Nothing has secured substantial funding, raising $200 million in Series C financing at a $1.3 billion valuation, led by Tiger Global. To date, the company has raised a total of $450 million.
