FBI Informant Reveals Epstein’s Personal Hacker Ties

Newly released court documents from the Department of Justice contain a 2017 FBI report detailing explosive, if unverified, claims from a confidential informant regarding the late Jeffrey Epstein and a “personal hacker”. The information, made public as part of a court-ordered release of Epstein-related files, is based solely on the account of that single informant and has not been independently verified.

According to the informant's account to the FBI, the disgraced financier had a “personal hacker” whose services he utilized. The informant described this individual as an Italian national, specifically from Calabria in southern Italy, who allegedly specialized in cyber intrusion. The informant claimed the hacker was “very good at finding vulnerabilities.”

The file contains a range of specific, but unverified, allegations provided by the informant. The alleged hacker purportedly specialized in discovering vulnerabilities in popular systems like iOS, BlackBerry, and the Firefox web browser, specializing in the dangerous area of discovering “zero-day exploits” and creating other offensive cyber tools. Furthermore, the informant claimed the hacker sold these capabilities internationally.

“The hacker had sold zero-day and offensive cyber tools to a central African government and the United Kingdom as well as the United States to include offensive tools to the US government,” the informant allegedly told the FBI. The informant further alleged that the hacker was also linked to a payment from Hezbollah, which involved a large sum of cash.

The documents do not include any verification of these specific claims, and it is crucial to stress that the document represents only the informant’s allegations to the FBI. The agency itself has declined to comment on the specific claims. The file is part of a much larger, court-ordered release of documents related to the government’s investigation into the Jeffrey Epstein network.

As with many high-profile cases, the release of these documents raises more questions than it answers. They do, however, open a new window into the FBI's lines of inquiry regarding Epstein, while also highlighting the shadowy, international market for digital exploits that exists just outside of public view. The details revealed underscore the complex, layered nature of modern intelligence gathering and the continuing public and judicial scrutiny of the Epstein case.
