Vercel's AI Advantage
While many tech companies established before the rise of tools like ChatGPT are navigating the challenges of adapting to the AI era, Vercel, a decade-old platform for developer tools and website hosting, is experiencing significant growth fueled by the proliferation of AI-generated applications and agents. This surge in creativity, particularly from non-developers, has been a major catalyst for Vercel's business expansion.
During a recent HumanX conference in San Francisco, Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch highlighted this shift. "When I started this company, only tens of millions of people could deploy," Rauch stated. "Now we're seeing that everybody in the world can create an app." This democratization of app creation has directly benefited Vercel.
Rapid Revenue Growth and IPO Prospects
Vercel's financial performance has been remarkable. According to reports, the company's annual recurring revenue (ARR) has surged from $100 million at the start of 2024 to a run rate of $340 million by the end of February 2026. This impressive trajectory has naturally led to questions about Vercel's plans for a public offering.
When asked about an IPO, Rauch indicated that the company is already operating with the rigor of a publicly traded entity. "Vercel is very much a working public company," he remarked. Regarding the specific timing of a debut, Rauch was more reserved, stating, "There's no perfect timeline or quarter I can give. The company's ready and getting more ready for it every day."
The IPO market for software companies has faced headwinds recently, largely due to concerns about AI's disruptive potential. However, with major AI players like SpaceX, Anthropic, and OpenAI potentially going public, a renewed window for listings might emerge. While many tech CEOs have become less vocal about their IPO ambitions, Rauch's comments suggest Vercel is actively preparing for a future public listing.
The Future of Infrastructure with AI
When asked what Wall Street should understand about Vercel, Rauch emphasized the expanding total addressable market for infrastructure, calling it "limitless." Vercel's strategy hinges on the expectation that as AI agents become increasingly prolific creators of software, Vercel will become the go-to platform for hosting these AI-generated applications.
Rauch noted that AI agents are highly efficient at deployment, with approximately 30% of the applications currently hosted on Vercel's platform originating from these agents. He believes that AI will dramatically accelerate software development by making it more efficient to generate custom solutions than to purchase existing ones. "All of that software... it needs to go somewhere, and we think it's going to be Vercel," Rauch concluded.
Vercel, last valued at $9.3 billion following a $300 million Series F funding round led by Accel, competes in the hosting services market against giants like Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services. The company also offers v0, a tool designed to streamline the creation of websites and applications through AI-powered coding.
