Building on the success of its "Home Safe" feature, Snapchat is rolling out a new "Arrival Notifications" capability. This enhancement allows users to automatically inform chosen friends and family members when they reach destinations beyond their home. This move signifies Snapchat's commitment to providing convenient ways for users to stay connected and share their whereabouts.
How Arrival Notifications Work
The "Arrival Notifications" feature enables users to set up single-use or recurring alerts for specific locations. Whether it's notifying someone about your return during a trip, or automatically confirming your arrival at a weekly class or meeting, the system handles it without requiring manual message sending. As with all location-based features on Snapchat, users have complete control over who sees their location and who receives these notifications. Location sharing on Snap Map is opt-in by default, meaning no one can track your location or receive alerts unless you explicitly grant permission to selected friends.
One-time alerts are designed to be temporary, expiring after they are sent or within a 24-hour period. To utilize this feature, users must first enable location sharing with a trusted friend. The process involves navigating to the friend's profile, scrolling down to "Arrival Notifications," and then selecting a location on the map. Users can personalize these locations with custom names, such as "running club" or "yoga class." Finally, they can choose between a one-time or recurring notification setting, ensuring their friend is automatically informed upon arrival.
Snap Map's Growing Ecosystem
This new functionality arrives as Snap Map continues to grow in popularity, boasting over 400 million monthly active users. Launched in 2017, Snap Map initially focused on allowing users to view friends' locations and discover public Snaps from around the globe. It has since evolved to include features for discovering local points of interest and activities.

With the introduction of "Arrival Notifications," complementing the "Home Safe" feature, Snapchat is positioning itself to better compete with established location-sharing services like Apple's "Find My" and family-focused apps such as Life360.
