AI Search is Reshaping Business Discovery, and Gushwork is Capitalizing
As artificial intelligence fundamentally alters how businesses are discovered online, Gushwork, a startup with roots in India, is emerging as a key player in helping companies capture leads from platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Early successes are already attracting significant investor attention.
Significant Seed Funding Round
Gushwork announced this week that it has successfully raised $9 million in a seed funding round. The round was led by Susquehanna International Group (SIG) and Lightspeed, with additional participation from B Capital, Seaborne Capital, Beenext, Sparrow Capital, and 2.2 Capital. This latest investment values Gushwork at $33 million post-money, a substantial increase from its $7.5 million valuation following a $2.1 million pre-seed round in July 2023. The company's total funding now stands at $11 million.
Strategic Pivot to AI-Driven Marketing
This funding comes at a pivotal moment as AI companies like OpenAI and Perplexity begin to challenge traditional search engines. Even incumbents such as Google are integrating AI-generated overviews and conversational features into their search products. Gushwork is strategically positioning itself to leverage this shift, aiming to help businesses gain visibility within these new AI-driven discovery channels through its automated marketing agents.
Founded in 2023 by Nayrhit Bhattacharya and Adithya Venkatesh, Gushwork initially focused on enabling small and medium-sized businesses to outsource workflows efficiently, combining AI with human expertise. However, the startup observed a strong customer demand for solutions aimed at enhancing online visibility, prompting a strategic pivot towards search-led marketing.
"When we started, we were focused on helping businesses outsource faster and outsource better," Bhattacharya explained. "The pull around search from customers became increasingly hard to ignore."
How Gushwork's Platform Works
Gushwork's platform utilizes a network of AI agents to automate the creation and updating of search-optimized content. It also builds backlinks, typically generating 10 to 20 backlinks per customer via a network of approximately 200 to 300 partner websites. Furthermore, the platform tracks inbound leads through an integrated content management system. The overarching goal is to help businesses appear in both traditional search results and AI-generated answers, reducing the reliance on extensive in-house marketing teams.
Traction and Financial Performance
The company reports having acquired over 300 paying customers, with about 95% located in the U.S. Subscriptions start at $800 per month. Following the recent rollout of its AI search-focused product, Gushwork is currently generating approximately $1.5 million in annualized recurring revenue (ARR). The startup is targeting $3 million to $3.5 million in ARR within the next three months and is experiencing impressive month-over-month growth of 50% to 80%.
AI Traffic Converting to High-Intent Leads
Internal data from Gushwork indicates that roughly 20% of website traffic now originates from AI-driven search and chat platforms. Significantly, these sources account for around 40% of inbound leads. This suggests that leads generated through AI channels are of higher intent.
These high-intent leads are already translating into tangible business outcomes for some clients. In one notable instance, a professional services client secured between $200,000 and $350,000 in contracts after implementing the Gushwork platform. Many users are reportedly experiencing substantial pipeline growth as AI-driven discovery gains traction.
Gushwork's current customer base is primarily composed of high-ticket B2B service providers, industrial distributors, and contract manufacturers, predominantly in the U.S. The average monthly subscription ranges from $800 to $900, equating to an annual contract value of approximately $9,000 to $10,000.
The Evolving Landscape of Online Discovery
The transition towards AI-driven discovery is still in its nascent stages but is rapidly gaining momentum. Tools like generative AI chatbots and AI web browsers are becoming increasingly integral to how buyers research vendors and products. OpenAI reported that ChatGPT handled approximately 2.5 billion prompts globally per day in July 2025, with U.S. users contributing around 330 million prompts daily. Bhattacharya notes that this trend is beginning to fundamentally reshape how businesses approach their online visibility strategies.
Future Plans and Expansion
Gushwork intends to utilize the newly acquired funding to expand its engineering team, enhance model accuracy, and scale its go-to-market initiatives. The company also has over 800 businesses on its waitlist, which it plans to onboard progressively.
The startup, headquartered in Delaware with an office in Bengaluru, employs approximately 70 individuals in India, supplemented by several contractors.
