Anduril Acquires Space Surveillance Firm ExoAnalytic Solutions
Navigating the complexities of space warfare begins with a comprehensive understanding of the activity occurring tens of thousands of miles above our planet. In pursuit of this critical capability, defense technology innovator Anduril has announced its acquisition of ExoAnalytic Solutions, a specialized firm focused on data analysis. This strategic move significantly enhances Anduril's capacity for space domain awareness.
ExoAnalytic Solutions operates a global network of 400 telescopes dedicated to tracking spacecraft in high Earth orbits. The company's expertise lies in developing sophisticated software that transforms raw observational data into actionable situational awareness tools. These tools are vital for U.S. national security agencies monitoring adversary spacecraft and coordinating domestic assets in orbit.
Gokul Subramanian, Anduril's VP of Engineering, stated, "This is a company we've been working with closely for the last several years on a number of programs, and they are experts in space domain awareness and missile defense. We believe the [Department of Defense] deserves the best catalog of everything going on in space."
The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed by the privately held companies. This development follows Reuters' report last week that Anduril is in the process of raising $4 billion from investors Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz.
ExoAnalytic Solutions will be fully integrated into Anduril's operations rather than functioning as a separate subsidiary. Subramanian indicated that ExoAnalytic would continue to serve its existing and future external clientele. Anduril currently employs 120 personnel focused on space defense, a figure set to more than double with the addition of ExoAnalytic's 130 employees.
The acquired technology is poised to bolster Anduril's prospects for securing government contracts, particularly those related to Golden Dome, a missile defense system for which the U.S. Congress has allocated substantial funding. This system is projected to involve thousands of satellites for tracking and targeting enemy missiles, necessitating real-time awareness and coordination, a significant undertaking.
Anduril also has plans to launch three internally funded spacecraft this year as R&D projects, leveraging capabilities gained through this acquisition. Subramanian noted that ExoAnalytic's proficiency in processing space data will be applied to an infrared tracking satellite slated for launch this year in collaboration with Apex Space. Furthermore, space tracking data will support two high-orbit missions planned for launch this year, in partnership with Impulse Space and Argo Space, respectively.
An additional strategic advantage of this acquisition lies in the machine vision algorithms developed by ExoAnalytic. These algorithms, designed for satellite detection, are also highly applicable to interceptor systems that need to track and engage incoming threats. Anduril recently secured a contract from the Pentagon in late 2025 to commence development of a space-based missile interceptor.
ExoAnalytic Solutions was founded in 2008 with the objective of adapting missile defense sensor technology for tracking spacecraft in orbit, responding to a U.S. military call for enhanced space situational understanding. The company's initial growth was supported by federal grants and contracts, including over $26 million in SBIR grants since 2010.
U.S. Space Force officials have voiced significant concerns regarding Chinese and Russian spacecraft operating in close proximity to American and European satellites, which could potentially disrupt communications or damage assets through electronic or physical means.
Subramanian recounted, "Two years ago, an [U.S. commander in the Pacific told] me that the fleet cannot leave the port without the space layer being secured. We've been on a mission for the last several years to figure out how to be a part of that solution."
